BURDEN OF NATIONAL DEBT
THRICE WHAT IT WAS
IN 1920
LONDON, 10th February. Surprising figures relating to "the effect of the fall in prices jvere given by Sir Josiah Stamp in a speech at Westminster.
He said that the dead burden of tho national debt was now about three times as great as in 1920, but that was the year of maximum inflation.
Personally he calculated that tho effective weight of the debt in terms of 1924 values at present was £11,638 millions, or an increase of1 over. £4000 millions. The situation had become worse since March, 1931.
