NELSON, Bth February. The Nelson Regimental Band will be a competitor at the Wellington band contest this month. Lieut. Hughes, the conductor, states that he expects the band to give very good renderings of the test pieces, "Undone," by Lortzing, and "Springtime," by Haydn Morris. The conductor mentioned that the Nelson band was one of the oldest, if not the oldest, in the Dominion, and was hopeful of taking a leading position in the coming contest.

In senior championship cricket on Saturday Wakatu gave Athletic an afternoon in the lield while they scored 274 runs, the chief scorers being Mcllwraith (35), Jones (47), Biggs (51), Muncaster (29), Stewart (27), Glover (21), and Wilkes (21 not out). Louisson bowled well, taking four wickets for 72 runs off 27 overs, six of which were maidens. In : the last halfhour of play Athletic lost one wicket for 34 runs.

At College, Old Boys made 284 against the students, who were playing their first game since the vacation. Chief contributors to the score were: Neale (71), Busch (67), Betts (36), and Elkhoff (29 not out). Stace took five wickets for 96 runs in 30 overs, and Freeman five for 104 in 30 overs. College lost three wickets for 52 runs, J. Newman capturing them all for 22 runs. Both matches will be completed next week.

The senior championship table shows the championship points as follows: Old Boys A 23, Old Boys Colts 13, Wakatu 11, Athletic 9, College 8. Shooting on tho Wakapuaka range, S. Barnett gained the best total with the rifle—3o at 300 yds, 34 at 500, and 33 at 600—D7, winning the Feathers and spoon for the shoot. P. F. Burn won the handicap with a total of 100—29 at 300 yds, 34 at 500, 30 at 600, handicap 7. The shoot was the final in the series for the D. M. Rees Trophy, and three competitors—W. R. Martyne, A. C. Russell, and P. F. Burn—tied for first place with 294 points. These will shoot off. Others well up in the scores were: J. Vitetta- and Manssen, jun., 293; L. Dixon, 292; B. B. Jones, 291; F. Gledhill, 290; H. Flower, C. G. Batchelor, 289; R. Kenning, 287; N. Manssen, 284; F. Sharland, 281; W. A. Kenning, 280; K. Inwood, 277; and L. Gore, 274. The heats in the Amos Challenge Shield competition for paired oar rowing resulted in good racing. The results were: G. P. Russell and Gubb beat Baigent and Winter; Curry and Davis beat Hunt and Griffin; Hill and Russell beat Jarvis and Toll; Russell and Gubb beat Curry and Davis.

Mr. W.C Barry, district superintendent of the Live Stock Division, Department of Agriculture, Wellington, has been on an official visit in the Nelson district during tho week. The Nelson Presbytery at its meeting this week released the Rev. D. McCosh, M.A., from the charge of Trinity Church so as to enable him. to accept the appointment to St. Andrew's Church, Suva. Mr. McCosh will finish his active ministry in Nelson on Sundaj', and will then go on holiday till Ist April, when he takes up his" new duties.

Mr. A. ,1. Harris, who has been connected with the Blenheim branch of Messrs. Dalgety and Co. since 1923, has been transferred to Kelson, where he has taken charge of the firm's merchandise department.
