On Saturday the Karon Defence Hiflc Club shot over the 300, 500, and 600 yards ranges (seven shots at each). President. 11. T. Marshall -was in charge of a lair attendance. There was a good light, but si variable wind caused some trouble and required veiy careful watching. The sluv>t was the first half-stage of the C.A.C. mid Bertram Cups competitions, and also counted for the Judd and K.-iurl.ill, Johnson, and Collins Cups competitions. The weather was beautifully i fine, but a light head wind proved very! tricky,-and was responsible for many outers, and magpies. First place at SOO' yards went to H. K. Hunt, 47. Deputy-President (ioodall 45, and H. T. Peat 43 were also well up. At 900 yards conditions were not very favourable, and the scoring low. Deputy-President Goodall was top scorer with 46 (eight bulls and two magpies), H T. Peat 43, and Vl*. Hutcheson 42 were the only other riflemen to score more than 40. The Upper Hutt Defence Piifie Club fired a practice shoot on Saturday at 300, 500, and 600 yards. The weather conditions were good, but a changeable front wind proved troublesome at times. Some very good score 3 were recorded. The best at
