■•Midland registered a total .of 242 in the first innings against Kilbirnie in a match played on the latter team's home ground. Coniinencing their innings ajL 6.10 p.m., KilHirnie put on.B runs for^ the loss of -'two: wickets before .stumps were drawn. Midland's batting was not spectacular. Although it-took the side 58 minutes to score its first 20 runs, Midland had lost six wickets when Die total had reached j .,J53,, i .Hutchings.and , .Clark, however, 'made a ■''de'lfeririirfcclKe'ffoi'iJ and" when the latter batsman- was clean bowled by Morris, Midland had increased the score to 128. Dustin, Tindall, and Lawton, the
first three 'batsmen, all failed to reach double .figures, but Hutchings, who went in next, compiled 53, including nine fours, iin just under two hours, Standidge, who followed Tjndall to the' pavilion, failed to break.his "duck," but the next man, Baker, ;scored 30. Scoring was slow and ,the batting uninteresting until. Law and Cutts brightened things .up with some lively: hitting. When Law was dismissed by Ashenden, Cutts steadied down again and carried his score to .68 before being, caught in the slips by Christophersen off Crook., .His - : total included 11 fours.
