WITH PLENTY OF WIND

Saturday was a cold, unsettled day with showers accompanying a fresh southerly wind, especially in the eastern districts. By yesterday, however, an improvement had set in owing to a slight anticyclone having moved on to the North Island. Yesterday was fine and pleasant with a light northerly prevailing. At Christehurch on Saturday it was dull, with drizzling rain at times in the morning, but the afternoon was sunny. Yesterday morning was fine, but the afternoon was cloudy. ' It was unsettled at Dunedin on Saturday, with intermittent rain ' accompanying a southerly wind. Yesterday was dull, but fair, a light north-easterly wind prevailing. Light rain fell there last night.

The forecast is for moderate to strong northerly winds, reaching gale force in places south of Now Plymouth and Napier, backing later to westerly, and in' places to south-westerly. The ■weather is likely to be changeable and squally, with rain in districts with a westerly aspect, and extending later to scntlciTil pluccs in the eastern districts of the South Island.
