United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright ADELAIDE, 29th January. The fourth Test match between South Africa and Australia opened at Adelaide to-day in perfect weather before 7000 spectators. The teams were:—

South Africa: Cameron, Morkel, Taylor, Viljocn, Chrißty, Mitchell, Curnow, 8011, Quinn, Vincent, McMillan.

Australia: "W. M. Woodfull (captain), W. H. Ponsford, D. G. Bradman, A. F. Kippax, K. Bigg, S. J. McCabe, W. Hunt, W. A. Oldfield, C. V. Grimmett, H. Thurlow, and W. J. O'Reilly, with J. H. Fingleton as twelf th man.

Cameron won the toss. There was a lifeless opening, the first hour bringing only 30 runs, chiefly singles. Ournow went cheaply at 20, Ponsford taking the catch at deep on. Mitchell's slowness was reflected in the fact that in 90 minutes he scored only 24. O'Beilly completely beat Christy. Taylor, however, infused brightness into the game with his, spectacular offdrives. He escaped being, run out when his score was" '11. , The century came up in 126 minutes. Mitchell, who was'stolid, was cleverly trapped by McCabe. Ho batted for 175 minutes and hit seven fours. Bradman missed Taylor in the outfield when the- latter's score was 75.. Taylor's innings ended at 78, Eigg effecting a smart catch at extra midoff. It was an attractive batting display, including eight fours andone six; Morkel did not score, hitting the ball straight back to Grimmett. Vilioen also fell a victim to Grimmett and did not score. Cameron had two lives at 40, O'Beilly and Oldfield missing. His was a valuable 52, which took 89 minutes. He hit seven fours. Details:— SOUTH AFRICA. First Innings.
