SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS. i An. intense depression crossed the Dominion yesterday and strong north to west winds prevailed. Since last night, however, a change to southerlles has set in over the Dominion, and rain, which had been confined mainly to western districts,, has been fairly general and heavy at scattered places. Thunderstorms have occurred in parts of the western districts of the South Island, Westport experiencing a severe one yesterday afternoon. Of the rainfalls, following are some of the heaviest reported,-v'lz;: Greymouth 378 points, Farewell Splt yBS, 'Cape Egmont T-7S. Stephens Island 51, and' Cape PSlllser 43 points. ... v ;.j
