OIL FROM SHALE.

At the shale oil fields at Latrobe, Tasmania, retorting is now being carried put on a fairly, large scale, and the daily output of Tasmanite Shale Oil Co. is now 1000 gallons. The petrol recovery has reached 36 gallons per ton. The manager of the company, Mr. Crozier, is hopeful of still.better results., The petrol, which is claimed to be better than that imported, is being sold at 2d a gallon less.
