The first train to/ cross tho. Sydney Harbour bridge, 180 feet : above the water,- to-day: was heralded by a salvo of ferry sirens and cock-a-doodle-doo-ing, which attracted ' the attention of thousands of people oh both sides of the harbour. '.-.'"'.
The locomotive, drawing two carriages with .an 'official' party1 aboard, steamed slowly. over ■ the great structure, looking not much larger than a child's toy amid the maze of towering steel. "■■:■• :. ; .-, ■■ ■
_ The occasion was a noteworthy one in the. history of the • harbour-bridge and in the careers of the train's crew.
