FALL OVER BANK

MAORI SERIOUSLY INJURED

HASTINGS, 18th January.

A Maori named Bi. Kaurauria, of Oringi, near Dannovirke, met with a' serious accident while driving a lorry down Te Aute Hill on his way from Danncvirke towards Hastings this afternoon. The lorry skidded in loose shingle ana went over a bank, turning over several times. ;'

Kaurauria, who was Tiy himself, managed to scramble out just before the lorry .caught fire. He was found by another motorist, who was on the way to Palmerston, and who first •■ noticed smoke and then saw £he victim lying beside the lorry.

He was unconscious, and when medical assistance came was found to have several broken ribs, one of which had penetrated the lung. His condition tonight was as well as couldvbe expected under the circumstances.
