The amount of shipping under construction in-the United Kingdom in December was the lowest since 1887 according to Lloyds Register's quarterly report,-which gives the figure as 400,505 tons, representing a decrease of 16,880 tons, compared, with last September, and 508,397 compared with December,
_ The report states that 1,403,795 tons is under construction through the world, of which 28* per cent! is being built in the United Kingdom. ,■
