NEW BUS SERVICE
PETONE TO KOROKORO
i 'J?wo- Matters ' concerning the railway bus service -in -the district were before the Petone- Borough Council last night A request made by-the council that bus sections should be extended to as near the boundaries o;° the Petone -borough as possible was refused. The bus manager wrote to say that the experience of the Department showed that the bulk of the Petone traffic emanated from Jackson street, and it w.as considered that the fixing of the terminus at the corner of Cuba and Jackson streets would-be reasonable.' *'"To iriect the requirements of residents' in the vicinity of the western boundary 'of fhe town the end of the section'was arranged at the corner of Hector', street' and Main Hutt road. A'h'e''council would appreciate the fact that'the bus service had experienced abnormal opposition for six months and so'had'a'considerable deficit to recover before"'it conld make further concession's".
Advice 'was' also' received from the bus manager that as tho result of icpresentatians- made' by,"the Korokoro Progressive League a limited bus service with a small bus had been started between Petone and Korokoro. The service was run on Monday, AVednosday, and Friday afternoons, and on Friday and-Saturday evenings. Some councillors said they thought that the fare (Is return) was excessive, and the Department ia to bo ■ told of this;
Councillor •A. Scholefield was "of the opinion: -that the- service would benefit all concerned, and- on his motion it was decided .to thank the Department for beginning it.
