MOUNT ON PHAR LAP
STEVE DONOGHUE'S HOPE
AGUA CALIENTE, 10th January. Steve Dbnoghuo and Michael Beary, British jockeys, were gue3ts of honour I at the track on Sunday. Donoghue said that the stress placed in the TJnited States on tho speed of.'horses and tracks militated against jockeys. In England stamina in horses was valued more and racing was more of a sport and less of a commercial venture than here. As a result, horses carried much more weight in big races. Asked whether ho would like to rido a horse in tho Aqua Caliente Handicap, Donoghuo said he would if it could be arranged; Discussing rumours that he had been asked to ride Phar Lap in the handicap on 20th March, he said: "I have not been asked to ude Plur Lap, and I am', due back in England on 15th March, but if I am asked, and if Sir Victor Bassoon, for. whom I ride, would grant an extension of njy vaca tion, I would do so."
