ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS

WELLINGTON CUP RIDERS

. Conditions were ideal for galloping at Trentham this morning. The course proper and tho plough were both, in use, the former being fast, but the latter, as a result of Sunday's heavy rain, being two or throe seconds slower to the halfmile. Both tracks are in fine order at present. Tho gallops were dove on the course proper, unless otherwise stated. It should be remembered that the new distances are measured about 20 feet in from the outside of the track, approximately where the horses do their work. Oh the plough, Moab Queen (G. F. Dick) surprised by leading Weatherstep (W. E. Shand) throughout their six furlongs and beating her rival home by two lengths in lmin" 18 3-ssee, the last half-mile in 53 2-ssee. The heavier going did not appear to suit Weatherstep, but Moab Queen went exceptionally well.. • Also on the plough, Kilstar (J. Wilson) rau. a mile in Imin 49 2-ssec, the last half in 56sec. ' Red. Sun (W. J. Broughton), after being behind till well in the straight, had hejaded off Normandy (F. E. Baker) befflfe the end of their six furlongs in 1 m'in losec, the last half-mile in 49 4-5 see. This was, a very satisfactory trial for two maiden horses. In a straight half-mile sprint, Michael Angelo (Shaud) was always in the Jpad from. Teastream (A. E. Lacassie) and Prince Pombal (Broughton), and beat the last-named by a length in 49 2-ssec, Teastream, after hanging, weakening slightly near the close. Prince Pombal was finishing better than either of the other pair. . ' SPEAR LAD WELL. .' Spear Lad (Baker) and Actaeon (H. Johnstonc) were practically together through most of their mile gallop, the latter doing slightly the better till the end, when Spear Lad shaded, him off. Their.time was lmin 44see for the full distance and 53 4-ssec for the last halfmile, "a useful effort. Both1 horses are improving all the time now. Cape Eoyal (Johnston) and Rulanut (Baker) worked over seven furlongs at a strong pace", taking lmin 35 2-ssec for the full distance and 55 l-ssec for the last half-mile. They were doing it very easily at the finish. Volga Boatman (Shand) ran half a mile nicely alone in 47 4-ssec. . Clangor (J. D. Martin) quickly established a lead over Might (J. K. Robertson) and Cockpen (S. Wilson) after they, had set off from the half-mile, and he beat Might, home in 48sec, Coekpen being three or four lengths back. On the plough, Lavington (L. L. Harding) and Oratorian (A. O'Neill) did an easy six furlongs in lmin 21sec, the last half-mile in 55see. .. ~. : Late Jest (Wilson) did a similar distance easily on the course proper.in-1 mm 21 4-ssec, the last -half-mile- in 54sec. ■■"'■• . Lady Pam(J. Mulvihill),-with Lyrical (Bobertson) for company, cantered a round on the plough, and then speeded up to half-pace for about a mile and a half.. :■..- '-.. , .'.•'• ./■■•;■; Gesture (Harding) was not bustled over her six furlongs in lmin 20& ec, the last half-mile in 53 2-ssec. Lady No el "apparently, appreciated ' the slightly' softer going than has lately ruled. ' "• ■-'■ ' .:.. ,■■-.'■ . Meritor (Wilson) was two lengths in front"of Colossic'al (Shand), with Mullaboden (Lacassie): tailing, at the close of a three furlongs :; sprint -down the straight in 36sec; ■::.:;■ ■: Waratah (O 'Neill) faii five furlongs alone in lmin. 4sec, the last half-mile in:olsee.
