INVEECABGILL, Ist January. I The Presbyterian Bible Class Conference continues quite successfully. In spite of changeable! weather conditions, the programme is being carried through as planned. On the: recreational side the tennis, cricket, basketball, . and swimming competitions have proved popular attractions. At! cricket Southland were soundlyl defeated by "the Rest of New Zealand," but the Southland girls were successful in winning the basketball shield. Eacli evening a short intercession meeting conducted by the ReV. R. G. McDowall is held before the main evening meeting. On Tuesday .evening the Rev. D. C. Herron spoke on "The Implication of Christianity for the Regions Beyond our own Country." He dealt with tendencies and forces working in the world to-day, the overthrow of conventions, the slackening of 'the sense of duty, and the lack of discipline among the young. 'Ho emphasised tho evils attendant on industrialism, especially where there was not a counteracting influence of Christianity. He maintained that renewed- interest in religion would bring the < world, back from chaos more quickly than, anything else. Wednesday night was "Homo and Maori Missions Night," the speakers being the Rev. F. M. Beattie and Sirs. J. Currie, and on Thursday morning the Bible Class sections were conducted by tho Rev. H. J. Eyburn and the Rev. Robin Adair, who took as thoir respective subjects "The Origin and Work of the Early Christian Church" and "The Living Way; a Picture of the Personality of Jesus."'ln the eyening the usual roll call meeting, which is always a feature of the conference, was followed by watch,,night services in the various camps. Over 600 took part in "Tho Procession of Witness through the main portion of the < city. The athletic banner was won by North Invercargill, St. Paul's (Invercargill) being the ninners-up.
