A GAME TO PLAY.
This is an indoor game called "The Fairy Ring":—
The players make a circle and sit down. Then they choose a person to go outside. She goes outside, and the players take numbers. Do not put the numbers in order, or the "Queen" (the person outside) will guess them. The players call*out "Eight!" when they are ready. The Queen comes in and asks how many children there are playing. If they say, "Fifteen," then the numbers are from one to fifteen. Then the Queen says a number and goes out of the room. The person who is this : number must follow the Queen out. They thun get an article from the hall, and the Queen holds it behind her back. The fairy who is with the Queen, tells the other fairies where it came from, and they must guess it. Suppose a girl called Jane was the Queen, Betsy the fairy who weut with Jane, and Elizabeth the one who guessed the article. Then Betsy is out, Jane goes back into the ring, and Elizabeth is Queen. And so the game goes on til! every one is out.
