BOATING PARTY'S PLIGHT
Two men, K.Butterworth and Cole, and two lads named McKay, all residents of Petone, left Petone in -.an-, outboard motor-boat at 8.30 a.m.. oil Thursday to go fishing. As they had sot re- | turned by New Tear's morning anxiety was felt for their safety. The police communicated with Sohies Island, the caretaker of which reported-that someone was on Leper Island. Accordingly ,a party in a whaleboat left Petone at 10 a.m. yesterday to investigate. ,Tho weather on the harbour was very, heavy, / and by 2 o'clock the rescue party had not returned. It-was thought'that all were safe on Leper Island, and the police notified the Harbour Board.: Captain Spence sent a launch out to the island, where all the members .of the party were found.
