UNEMPLOYED BOYS

MASTERTON CAMP

The' boys attending the V.M.C.A.Eotary Club camp at Mastertbn have now adjusted themselves to the new conditions of life under canvas, and a commencement has been made with an intensive programme of agricultural training and holiday recreational pursuits. : - ■ ■

On Thursday the boys were engaged in ploughing, fencing, and shearing, while yesterday (New Year's Day) was observed as a holiday, and the campers participated in a long tramp through the Hills. Through the courtesy of the picture theatre proprietors of Masterton, the lads are to be the guests of the two picture shows twice weekly.

A number of the boys have found employment, and a small number have beeu returned to Wellington as unsuitable. There now exist ten vacancies for membership in. the camp, : and applications from suitable boys will be received at the V.M.C.A., Willis street, not later than Monday, next at 5 p.m. Preference .Will be given to those boys who desire to undertake farm work in the future.

The camp will continue until the end of January, and will be officially opened on "Wednesday next, 6th January, at 11.45 a.m., by the Minister of Health (Hon. J. A. Young). Acknowledgment is made of the following gifts towards the cost of the camp:—Amount previously acknowledged, £189 9s; F.E.S., 2s 6d; "Rongotai," 10s. The following gifts of goods are also acknowledged:—Mrs. Gow, vegetables, jam; Anonymous, jam.
