LAST ELECTION RETURN
SYDNEY, 31st;1 December. The last of the doubtful. election seats has beon decided, namely, the Lang seat which.formerly was held by a Federal Labour supporter, Mr. W. Long. Victory went to the United Australia candidate, Mr. A. Dein, whoso majority was 3593. The runner-up was the Lang Plan candidate, Mr. Mulcahy. The state of the parties in the House' of Eeprescntatives is now:— United. Australia Party ........ 39 United Country Party"' .......... 16 Independents 2 Total for anti-Labour Members .. 57 Federal Official Labour .......; .14 Beasleymen (otherwise. State Labour) ..,. 4 Total Labour seats 18 A strange situation, has arisen in the Federal Parliament House. There are not sufficient benches on the right hand of the Speaker to accommodate all the now Government supporters, and aomo will have to sit with the Opposition. This is the first time this has occurred in tho Federal Parliament.
