, LONDON, . Ist." January. January, of the year 1932 came in with a flourish of trumpets. The West End night clubs and restaurants wore crowded with revellers despite the menace- of income tax demands. Tho general merriment was accentuated by the ladies' recollection that 1932 is Leap Year, thus permitting mod proposals of marriage. Th^.re were joyous scenes at the Chelsea Arts Club ball m fie Albert Hall, where several thousands welcomed tho' New Year dressed in costumes to be expected in 1982, the revel being entitled "Fifty Years Hence." Between 11 p.m. and midnight Ludgate Hill was crowded to hoar. St. Paul's chime tho New ;Year. When "Auld' Lang Syne was begun, thousands grasped hands and exchanged greetings. Meanwhile broadcasting enabled millions to listen-in to the New Year celebrations throughout Europe; indeed numerous parties of Americans at the Savoy and other big hotels were waiting until 5 a,m. in order to partako in the celebrations in the States. /
