\ Viscount Sankey is a bachelor and is 65 years of age. He has been Lord Chancellor since 1929. In 1930 he was made a , British member of the Permanent Court of International Justice, lie also headed the famous Commission of Inquiry into the Coal Industry which came to be known as the Sankey Commission. : .i ■ . ::
Lord Allen, who is. 42 years of age, was chairman of the Cambridge Fabian Society during his term at the University, was \ secretary of. v the Labourj '' Daily Citizen," which ceased ! publication during the ; war, founded the "No Conscription" Fellowship^ and was three' times imprisoned. as a conscientious objector, has been chairman of the Independent Labour Party, and visited Eussia as a member of the Labour delegation in 1920. He is now a director of the "Daily Herald." , Lord Ashley has been a Conservative M.P. for 26 years, and in 1911 became Conservative' Whip. In 1922, he was Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, in 1923 TJnder-Secretary for War, and in 1924 Minister of Transport. I Lod Guinness is 5.1 years of age, and has been in Parliament since 1907. In 1922 he became Under-Secretary for War, and in 1924 Financial Secretary to the Treasury. In 1925.he was Minister of Agriculture. He saw service in the South African War.
