WELLINGTON COLTS
MATCH AT ASHBURTON
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, 30th December. A cricket match between L. J. Brabin's team of Wellington colts and the Ashburton county representatives commenced at Ashburton yesterday. The 'standard of play, with two exceptions, was disappointing. The weather was fine and the wicket slow. The outstanding batsmen wore Penrose (Ashburton) 54, and Brady (Ashburton) 44 not out. Ashburton batted first, making 101, and had 108 for the loss of eight wickets at the conclusion of the day's play. The most prominent batsmen for Wellington, v?ho made OS in the first innings, were Duffy (28) and M'Lean (10). Rooke troubled the Ashburton batsmen in the second innings, accounting for six of the eight wickets which fell. Scores are as follows: —
