THE MINISTRY
ITS NUMERICAL STRENGTH
AN INCREASE OPPOSED
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
DUNEDIN, This Day
The "Otsigo Daily Times" says "it is to be hoped that Mr. Forbes will firmly resist auy suggestion that he should make frosh appointments to the Ministry. An impression exists among the electors that some of the fourteen Ministers, being not greatly tied down by the responsibilities of their office, wasted public money to a scandalous extent by incurring travelling expenses upon an unwarranted scale. There is no ground on which the appointment of additional Ministers could be satisfactorily based. The activities of the Departments have been, and are being severely curtailed in consequence of the need for retrenchment, and it may be surmised that they- will have to be curtailed still more severely, and to suggest that in circumstances such as these the numerical strength of the Government should be increased is to disregard wholly the vital requirements of the times."
