Pollock Stars. .The Pollock Stak-s again changed hands this week when the Waimarie Club, represented by Mesdames Mouat and Johnson, defeated the holders, Mesdames Breeze and Griffiths (Island Bay). The game throughout was an interesting one, and although the Waimarie players held tbo lead, their oppononts were shooting well but were unable to get the strength of the lawn. Mrs.. Mouat started well by making a substantial break, and Mrs. Johnson wag playing steadily, giving the Island Bay players little chance to score. The next match will be played on the Waimarie greens, the challengers being the Ngaroma Club. M'Kenzie Cups. Wellington Club, represented by Mrs., Ashton and Miss Bates, are now the holders of the M'Kenzio Cups, having wrestedtho trophy from the Seatoun Club, represented by Mesdames Small and Morton. Although the game was somewhat lengthy, it had a very exciting finish. After having been quite a distance behind, the Seatoun Club pulled up, and eventually all the clips were on'the stick when the Seatoun players, in; separating the opponents, went boundary,'thereby letting in'the visiting team. Tbe game ended 26 : 24. - Association Terns. The fifth round for tho Ferns was played last Friday on the Central lawns at.Petone, when the holders, Mesdames Pawson and Eidley, defeated Mesdames Roberts and Pridelle (Wellington), the score being 26-6. Mrs. Earl M'Kenzie. A further draw will then be arranged in the A and B grades, each match to consist of the best of three games. This should prove an interesting competition and
be keenly coutested by the various club members. Mount Victoria Club. A most successful "bring-and-buy" afternoon was held on tbe lawns of the Mount Victoria Club last Saturday, tbe proceeds of which were in aid of the club funds. Owing to tbe fact that the reserve fund bad been somewhat depleted through recent alterations to the pavilion and grounds, it was considered necessary to havo a succession of competition afternoons to decrease tbe deficiency. Quite a number of visitors were the recipients of trophies, Mrs. Lamb winning a bandsome worked cushion, Mrs. Buekoiaster a box of sweets, and Mrs. Jordon a very charming dressing table decoration. Two competitions were keenly contested, tbe winners being Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Jones. Kelburn Club. The members of this club have now got their handicap matches well forward, and in the Hiley Cup competition the semi-final stage has boen reached. This week Mrs. Pritchard plays Mrs. Chetwin, the winner to play Mrs. Lowery in tbe final of one life. In the final of tho other lite Mrs. Pritchard plays Mrs. O'Donuell. Wellington Club. The championship doubles in this club havo been started, and are being run off on the Yankee principle. The winning pair will represent the club at tbe forthcoming Wellington tournament. Mesdames Martin and M'lntosh are playing for tho Woburn Club. The Hutt Club is the next on the list of challengers. Answers to Correspondents. "Keen."—(l) Should you croquet your partner ball on to the stick, provided your own ball is a rover at the commencement of the stroke, the point is, scored and that ball is taken off the court. Very often players, finding that they are rather far from the peg to risk pegging both balls out, endeavour to put the croqueted ball on, and in the same shot go to the opponent's balls, and if possible obtain a rush to the stick, thus enabling the game to be finished in that turn. (2) In the event of the peeled ball going boundary on the "croquet" shot tho turn ceases, the boundary ball being placed on tho line and the ball in play remaining where it comes to rest. The point or points are scored. (3) In .taking off from a ball resting on or near a wire, provided tbe croqueted ball perceptibly shakes, although it may be bit against the upright, it is not a foul. It is impossible to communicate a crush, this being only possible with the playing ball. (4) Biile 32. Should you in running a hoop hit a ball on the nonplaying side the hoop is run and a roquet made. Should your ball, however, fall back into the hoop, even after, having roqueted the ball on the uon-playing side, the hoop is not run nor is a roquet made. Importance is attached to the words "non-playing" in this rule.
