MACDONALD'S ADVICE

SOUTH AFRICA ONLY

Onited Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received 2nd December, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Ist December, Mr. Mac Donald, in a letter to Mr. J. H. Thomas, Dominions Secretary, says: "I have been considering your project to visit the Dominions and prepare the way for an agreement. It once appeared that I could spare you for a month or two from Cabinet and other consultations, but that becomes more and. more unlikely. I intended a health trip myself to the West Indies, but it had to be abandoned. Could you not just go to South Africa and return before the House meets again?" Mr. Thomas replied: "I am not unmindful of our difficulties and the necessity of full Cabinet consultation. While I would have liked, to try to hammer out some of the difficulties in connection with the Imperial Conference by personal negotiation, I am sure your advic* is for the best, and I am acting accordingly." Mr. Thomas lcavea on Bth January for a health trip. Ho will spend four days in South Africa and return on 22n4 February.
