SMASH AT CROSSING
ONE taAN KILLED
ANOTHER BADLY HURT
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHUBCH, This Day. William Hobman Cook, a butcher, of Christchureh, was killed, and John Wilson, a salesman, was seriously injured when a motor-truck in which he was riding was struck by a train at the Styx crossing late yesterday. Wilson, it is believed, was demonstrating the truck to Cook. Other vehicles were waiting for the train to pass and the flash signals were operating, it is said. The truck was swung right round and was completely wrecked. Cook, the driver, was flung clear into the cattle stop by the rails and his head waß smashed. Wilson was caught and dragged, under the engine. He was carried right across the cattle stop to the points beyond. His head was injured, his left ankle almost severed, and his chest severely injured.
