GORGEOUS BLOOMS.

The Rose Show of the Wellington Horticultural Society will be licld in the Town Hall next Thursday, aud promises to provide a feast of colour. This year is certainly rose year, many prominent growers being of the - opinion that the roses have never been so good. Entries are promised fro'm'the Wairarapa and other places outside the city. The Lower Hutt growers are showing in lull force. The ladies' decorative classes, always an attractive feature, have been considerably added to, and will provide a show in themselves. The largo number ot cups and_ trophies..to be competed for include "The Evening Post" trophy for suburban growers; Walker and Hall a Cup. (first competition) for twelve rose blooms, any variety; J. G. MacKenzie's Rose Bowk for sjs red rose blooms, not lesS thari.-'thfee" varieties"; 'Janlics JfV 'Bell. Btrophy for six rose blooms, distinct varieties; R. M. Grittiths's Memorial Trophy, for rose competition for suburban growers; Miss Black's "Rosemary" trophy (first competition), for decorative classes; Stewart Dawson's trophy for basket of roses; Mrs. Knox Gilmer's trophy, for collection of cut flowers; Hope Gibbqns's trophy, for twenty-four pansy blooms (excluding "Masterpiece"); R. A, Nicol's pansy trophy, for twelve pansy blooms (excluding "Masterpiece"); D. G. M'Girr s trophy, for six seedling exhibition pansics (marginal), first competition. Schedules may bo obtained from any of the seedsmen in the ,city or from. the secretary (Mr. A. R. Stone). Entries for' all classes dose at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Hutt Valley Horticultural Society's Summer (Rose) Show, which takes place on Wednesday, will be officially opened by Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, at 2.30 p.m. The glorious weather experienced this month has produced a prolific tfrowth, and the show should be one of the finest held in the Hutt Valley. There will be an outstanding display of bearded irisis and seedlings* from Waikanae, pansies, carnations, sweetpeas, and hydrangeas, collection of native flowers, leaves, and berries by junior, members of the New Zealand Alpine and Rock Garden Society, display of miniature gardens* and farms will be shown. The presentation of prizes will, take place at 9' p.m., and the exhibition will be open- from 2 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Entries' close on. Monday at 5 p.m. ■ ..;l ■ ■'..■'
