TTS.DSK was faffing, and all the I J 'possums were waking up. It •"-^ was a lovely piece of bush, just the kind that 'possums love. Little Grey Possum hustled up her tree and joined the merrymakers. Such a time they had, scurrying and scampering up and down trees, chasing each other, and last of all eating all the nice twigs and young green shoots they could find. When dawn began to break they scurried back to their homes. It was then Little Grey 'Possum made her discovery. Returning to her tree, she discovered a clear little ball of fur. She squealed with delight and started to wash and f«ed her precious child. All day long she tended him and crooned songs to him when he was awake. , , A few days after Wee 'Possum's birth, his proud little mother took him out on her back for the first time, to show him to the 'possum world. Wee 'Possum was petted and stroked, while never before had a baby 'possum been so fussed over; for Little.Grey 'Possum was Queen, and he was her first child. The juiciest green shoots were brought to him, the best food places were shown 'to him, the best games they knew were taught to him, for was he not a wonderful babe? When Wee 'Possum was a few months old he lost his mother, Little Grey 'Possum. He hunted everywhere, and was so hungry that he felt he would eat the first food he found. Soon he saw a piece of rosy apple, and he ran to it, but alas, he stepped into a trap! . So he sat down (as well as he could, for his tail was caught) and cried. Next morning a man came and took him out of the trap and carried him away.
