GENERAL RAIN ?
CONDITIONS FAVOURABLE
The general msteorological situation is now more favourable for the development of fairly general rain than it hus been at any.time since the beginning of the moiivtii. Ihis/no doubt, will be welcome,-news ta a large number of people, jafe^tlie diy spell, especially for tho agriculturist^ as was pointed out in yesterday's "PoEt," has begun, to bo serious. There Vill be some,' however, who perhaps wduld have preferred a change in tho weather to take place, in the middle of the, week.and not at the end; but there is'no pleasing everybody, especially as far, as the weather is concerned. The exiensivo anti-cyclone 10----sponsiblo for- trie recent long spdll of beautiful summer-like weather has now passed definitely away eastward. Since last night a degression from, the westward has started to envelop the Dominion, and barometers... are falling steadily everywhere. Yesterday was another 'fino and hot day in practieilly all. parts, of the Dominion. But since last evening cloud has greatly increased in most districts. Bain fell last ijight on the west coast of the South Mand, falls in places being heavy. Okuru had. 120 points. Greymouth 81j and TV"estpd_rt .75. At "9 a.m. to-day it was raining in isolated places on the east coast of tho South Island and in somo I far northern districts. Winds have b(jen moderate to strong from some point between north and west, and in aid south of Cook Strait gale force has [been- reached at times. At 9 a.m. to-dsy Ohristchurch was ex-j periencing a sokth-westerly wind owing [ to the development of a slight low centre to the east of Banks Peninsula.
Moderate to strong northerly to westerly winds arel forecasted to reach gale force,in places. In southern districts winds will sooji back to southerlies, a general change to southerly winds probably being iU'Cvidenco throughout the Dominion witlin tho next twenty-four to thirty-six hjmrs. Unsettled, cloudy, and misty weather may be expected. JTnirly general rain should develop, with heavy i'f|lls in western districts. Thunder in pUces is not at all improbable, and teiYpera lures arc Jiltely to become cooler shortly*
