LEVIN-RAGING CLUB
GOOD FIELDS TO-MORROW
SOME HORSES IN FORM
The iieltls sol down to contest the eventb at the Levin Hacing Club's Annual JJeetmg to-morrow arc ot exceptional strength for a country fixture-, both fiom the point ot' numbers and of quality, and all the piospecls are for a most successiiil gathering. The stakes are particularly {rood, being much better than those offered by the Wanganui (metropolitan) Club, and also better'than those offered by the Woodvillo Club, and it •is this feature ihat has apparently drawn the' fields. After the recent lons spell o£ fino weatherthe track isl likely to be very.fast. A special train leaves Thorndon for Levin at 5.55 a.m. (o-morrow, arriving at 11.23 a.m. Tlie leturn special Joparts from Levin at 6.0 p.m. The programme and prospects aio:— 1~ O—MArDEN RACE, of 70 sots (or- 90 boys if In divisions); for maidens at tuno of starting: six furlongs.
Unless there should be eight scratchings the Maiden Bace will be iunin divisions, as it was last year. " In the first division the hoises who stand out on form shown or recent work are-Granado, Park Acre, and Aiaios. Granado's gallops this -week point strongly to his chance. Other piospects are Ucaconsffield, Capetown, and Pukepapa. The best pair may be Granado and Park Acre. , ~ In the second division, which would Bfrpear the stronger, good form has been Bh*wn by In Vain, Haulbowlme, and Tifierism, and they look the hardest to beat. In Vain, with H. Gray in the *,i«dle, is the probable favourite, but Haulbowlinc has a piivato reputation. Others with chances are Goy, Pnscilla Verne, and Salt Spray. With main appeil are In Vain and Haulbowline. 12.15 p.m.—MA^AIvATJ HACK HURDLES, of 100 soys. Ono mile and a hull.
[n the Manakau Ilack Hurdles most o£ the acceptor have shown recent form, and the tacc should provide investors with many channels for their support. Tenacre, the Waverley winner, may find his weight top much, and Hymgreat, Coon Song, -and "Okapua are'pieferred. The last-named is well treated on the score of weight- The Sun has been schooling nicely for a, novice, 'and he has- only to jump pioperly in the Taca (his first over fences) to be near at hand at the finish. Soviet alsto possesses a likely chance. Final analysis points to the prospects of Okapua and Hymgreat. *
Among those "who will bo suppoiled in (he Weiaio,l Hack Handicap are GayCourt, Thvas>h"er, Lynt.il, Fafrway, Armada, Gran Chaeo, and Kotahi Eka, and among these alone it is difficult to discriminate. FairWay is evidently something abovo ordinary, and. it started here he may prove one oi the toughest to settle. rl hraaber, Lyrical, and. Aivada look best ot the rest. Sohtaue 11. and Red Sun avg two other Trentham prospects, but ihe opposition will probably be above j them. The wisest choice may be foi Fair-j ■nay and Thrasher. 2 15 pm—MAKOMAKO HACK HANDICAP, ot 90 boys Six furlongs.
• Another very even field is caided in the Makomako Hack Handicap, and bettors' ianey should he well distributed. Leisure, ■who'has-not yet run out o£ a place.this peaspn, id overdue, and tho weight should not stop her, for she was capable of rarryine'only 21b less into a place at Trentham after receiving not the best of passages.- Others whose chances read well are Ar'ajcan, St. Roger, Moatoa, and Eminent. Arajean may be in weed of a run, but if should not be overlooked, that she wad several times in the raone^, in open company late last season. She won the race last year. Good efforts should be coming from Leisure and Arajean. 3.0 p.m.—LEVIX HANDICAP, of 150 soys. One mile and a quarter.
The acceptors for the Levin Handicap ■aie a -well-matched i£ nok a quality.lot, and they are likely to provide an interesting race. Malayan and Duellona are doubtful starters, but Habit, Briar Root, Charmaline, and Royal Opera are left to •lepresent form. Best among the lastnamed quartet may be Chavmaline, whom Spearful had to do his utmost to beat at Carterton before going on to win the New Zealand Cup. She was* subsequently defeated by Briar Root at Hastings, but at Gib better terms to-morrow may well turn the tables. Royal Opera raced at Cavterton as though he would shortly bej improving, and he may prove .Charmaline's main rival. Spent Lad has a derided chance off the minimum. A-likely pair are Charmaline and Royal Opera. 3.1G p.m.—LAKE HACK HANDICAP, ot 00 sovi. Ono ratio nnil <i ilistancfc. st lb ' s.t lb
There, is some overlapping with earlier races, in the Lake Hack Handicap, but no matter how the field is finally composed Joie de "Val is likely to be sent out favourite. Irene* runii up 'to; her recent- best' form she, will take a lot _of beatings Her. most dangerous opposition may be provided by Grand Jury (whom recent 'racing will have . improved);, Betract, Fairway (if. reserved^ and-Easterly. Best of those lower down- may' be White Squall,'''now working well at. Treritnam. The public, will probably select. Joie: de Yaland Fairway (or Grata Jury).." : ; 4.U0 p.m.—M'DONAW) MEJIORI.AL HANOI CAP/of 120 so'vs. Six furlongs " ' ' '' Ft lb
Tie il'Donald Memorial Handicap, like Ihd main .handicap,. may Jack, in q\iality, but1 it'is. nevertheless1 a most open race. Among tbosta best backed will bo Equit.int and Trojan: Melody, but the three among the eight stones-would beat them ifjihlprdper galloping mood. Tobaccoland .will" give R." Reed • another.' chance.-, of phowinff his ability, and it lie is properly controlled early he may prove a serious
opponent for the best of the others. Vdtquox's chance.should not be overlooked because of recent failures, and speedy Aeora will be suited by the track, although her latest form did not come "P to expectation. Oue inclines to flic prospects o£ Tobaccolond and Eqiiitant. 5.20 p.m.—IIQKIO' HACK HANMCAI'. of 80 boys. Five Wrlongi.

The issue is complicated by the presence of so many I horses with'prib.11 engagements, but Interlocutor ■ and' All'Humbug are not in any other evqnt, and? judged on their recent racing, 'they will' be among the hardest to beat. Others with chances read to be Hampden, Solitaire II., Navaho, Acis, 1 Haulbowline, and Arvada. H-unpden was a promising two'-ycar-old last season, and the one- race lie hud at Waverley this | term is likely to have improved him. He is' a 11 better class, than most of his opponents. The final hoist may include the numbers.of All Humbug'and Interlocutor.
