HAWERA POLICE ACT
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HAWERA, ISth November. Thomas Henderson Teesdnle, tearooms proprietor, who had been previously fined £50 for a similar offence, was to-day fined £100 by the Magistrate, Mr. .Salmon, for carrying on the business of a bookmaker. For assisting in the control of a common gaming house, AVilliam Elder was fined £20. ''Samuel Pivac, restaurant-keeper, was fined £75 on a bookmaking charge. Tho offences were admitted. Tho arrests wcro tho result of a police raid on various premises in town on 11th November. A fourth man arrested, Chanel Cullinane, a barman, pleaded not guilty, and was remanded on charges of bookmaking in a hotel and keeping a common gaming house. Charles Francis Taylor and George William Brogden were each fined £2 for being found in a gaming house. Two others were remanded on similar charges. _____
