A PACKED MEETING
MR. A. J. STALLWORTHY
FACES NOISY SECTION
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Probably the largest meeting at Auckland "to date in the election campaign was one addressed by Mr. A. J. Stall-worthy in Eden last night. The hall and its approaches were packed with over 1200 people, and hundreds were turned away. The former Minister had to contend throughout with a noisy section of the audience which began, by counting out the chairman for reading letters on the subject of Mount Eden drainage. One interjeetor inquired why Mr. Stallworthy had been "chucked out of the Ministry." "I have never been thrown out in my life," replied Mr. Stallworthy, "not even out of the boxing ring, in which I can use myself pretty freely." After this the audience was quieter for ten minutes. Mr. Stallworthy's statement that "there are some people in this country who will never be able to repay me for what I have done" was warmly applauded. A vote of confidence was put but was drowned by the noisy section.
