MA CHAN-SHAN RETIRING
OUTFLANKED BY TANKS

A Manchurian communique says that at 4 o'clock this morning the Japanese launched a general attack on the whole length of General Ma Chan-Shan's line. The situation is serious. The latest dispatches from the Nonni River in regard to the fighting say that the Chinese right wing was forced to retire before a flank attack by Japanese armoured cars. The Japanese crossed the Chinese East« crn Railway in pursuit of General Ma Chan-Shan's forces, who are fighting a rearguard action thirty; miles north of the railway.
