"HE WANTS COURAGE"
ADVICE FOR MR. DARROCH
Although for the greater part of the time Mr. E. Darroeh, Coalition candidate for Wellington Central, was listened to in silence at Clyde quay last evening, there were occasions when mteriections were of a lively nature. Prior to his address, he placed a folded flag on the table, aiul immediately there was a cry for tho Bed .blag. "When are you going to start the pantomime?" asked an anxious elector. The chairman (Mr. W. P«rry) introduced the candidate, and said that Mr. Darroch was born in the electorate. A voice: "So was Peter Fraser." Mr. Perry: "Mr. Darroch has been here 32 years." A voice: "Peter has been here 41. Mr. Perry: "We may as well make this a weight-for-age race, then. Mr. Darroch wants to mako this a sporting contest. He has no doubt that Mr. Fraser, the sitting member —" "Will get in," chipped in a supporter, amidst laughter. • Mr. Perry said that Mr. Darroch had done nothing to further his candidature till the House rose. "That's all 'bunk'," came a remark from the audience. "That's true," replied Mr. Perry, "and the truth always matters. You must pay tribute to Mr. Darroch 's courage because he has the temerity to oppose the sitting member." "He wants some courage, too," remarked a Labour supporter. Mr. Perry: "My friend says that ho wants some courage. Becords have been broken, and they will bo broken again. We want this to bo a clean, sporting contest, and I want you to give Mr. Darroch a sporting hearing."
