SHIPPING MENACE

AMERICA IN THE PACIFIC

"I want to refer to a menace which ig threatening Now Zealand in regard to our shipping business," said Mr. K. A. Wright in his address last evening at Northland.. He referred to the passing of the Jones-White Shipping Bill in the United States, and the granting of large Government subsidies to American ships trading in the Pacific. The object was, no doubt, to run our shipping off these seas. "It is unfair ■competition," said the speaker, "and I think the Government of New Zealand, should pass such legislation as will, if possible, stop such a menace as I have indicated."
