RAILWAY FARES

UNFAIR DISCRIMINATION

Speaking at Moera last ovening, Mr. Walter Nashj, the Labour, candidate for the Hutt seat, touched on a sore point with Hutt Valley residents, the raising .of railway- fares. recently, with no reduction .when; general fares were brought down. Mr. Nash said, that ie had strongly opposed increases in fares ,at the time, and had said that instead of sueh1 increases leading to an increase been verified, said Mr. Nash, and the Department had subsequently ' "altered its policy and had decided to reduce fares, .but the unfair discrimination of the* Government was shown by the fact that though the workers' fares' were increased from 2s 6d to 3s 6d when the other fares -went up no : reduction had been made in workers' fares, nor in suburban season tickets,- when fares generally were reduced again.'
