BIBLE IN SCHOOLS
WHERE MR. APPLETON ~..-,. STANDS
In replying to.-a question at Newtown last., e.voning, Miy .WjlL.Appleton, the" Coalition candidate, said that some" years- ago he was opposed to' Bible, teaching -in Schools. As a father ;of five children, and; in view of more-ex-perience, and also. because, of the apparent lack of Christian', teaching as disclosed- by some -of our young- people, he 'Was" now of' the. opinion that- a certain amount of Bible teaching would do no harm. Mr. Appleton said that afterall, the whole basis of our lifewas" Christianity/ and .provided' tho various denominations could' get together" and -agree upon a definito system of teaching, he "was .in favour of such »■ scheme. The citation of the Lord's Prayer in all of our schools, for instance,' could not be. objected to by anybody, and if a teacher refused to 'impart that particular instruction, well, that teacher had no business to bo teaching in a Christian community.
