SOUTH AUSTRALIA BEAT VICTORIA
ADELAIDE, 17th November.
In the Sheffield Shield match against South Australia, Victoria (first innings 315) in the second innings made 151 (Oakley 44). South Australia,"3l7 and 170, won by 21 runs. Bowling: Wall took two wickets for 28 runs; Grimmett, two for 32; and Lee, three for 22. A. Kippax and A. Jackson were not available for the match, New South Wales v. South Africa. JSippax was injured at Brisbane, and Jackson had not recovered from a severe cold.The South Africans proceed from Sydney to Brisbane, where they are to commence a match with Queensland on Friday. This match will be followed by the first Test, also at Brisbane, starting on Friday of next week. Thero is no time limit to the Tests. Members of the last Australian team to England who have been passed over in the selection of the team to meet South Africa in the first Test are: V. Y. Richardson, A. A. Jackson, A. G. Fairfax, P. M. Hornibrook, A. Hurwood, E. L. a'Beckett, and C. W. Walker. All, of course, could not be placed, but room has been made for Nitschko (South Australia), Oxenham (Queensland), and' Ironmonger (Victoria), who did not go to England. In the list of averages for all first-class matches in Australia last season Nitschke was sixth in the batting department with 55.33. Ironmonger and Oxenham were first and third respectively in the bowling department, their averages being 14.42 and 18..30.
