OLYMPIC GAMES
THE ART UNION PROFIT
Ihe Mig^ehtion -\\ab made by Mr. 'A. W. 0 Tia\eib at the annual meeting ot the | New Zealand Amateur Athletic Associa-' tion last evening that instead ot the de-! cision ot the Oljmpic and British. Empire dames Association to invest practically the, , Whole of the £13,000 rained by the art union, using only the interest' on that amount to assist in, tending teams oveiseas, it would have been a better plan to set aside £1000 for the, puiposes of the next Olympic Games, to j be held m Los Angeles in the middle of next jear. | Mr. Tiaveis said he believed that in 1 view of the early approach of the Oljmpic Games it would have been -advisable to | set aside £1000 so as to augment the funds that would have to be collected by the various national associations to send representatives away. The interest on the £13,000>, by the time consideration was I being given to the selection of the team, 1 would be relatively email, .and the different associations would find it most difficult toirai'se sufficient money. " , He readily agreed that the money should | not be frittered away, and that some investment should take, place, but in view,, of the fact that'the appeal was made to j the public just lecently and that the 1 Olympic Games were close at hand, he really thought it would have been advisable for a cci tain amount to have been bei aside to assist in sending away com* petitois next year. In his opinion tho coiuse thfct had. been decided upon might bo the means of preventing possible and desuable candidates fiom being sent to the Games.
