PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Petoue Borough Council met last night. The Mayor (Mr. D. M'Kenzie) presided, and there were also present Councillors J. C. Burns, R. W. Toomath, E. T. E. Hogg, A. Scholefield, H. A. Ryder, V. E. Jacobson, and V. A. Noble.
Councillors accepted an invitation from the Rev. F. S. Ramson to attend morning service at St. Augustine's Church on 29th November, when His Excellency the Gover-nor-General and Ladj' Bledisloe will be present. Permission to eplay back the front fence of the Central School was refused by the Wellington Education Board. Disappointment was expressed by councillors, and it was decided to ask the School Committee to co-operate with the council in obtaining reconsideration of the request.
No action was taken regarding a request from the Heretauuga Boating Club for a reduction in the rent of the ground used by it on the eastern foreshore. A copy of the proposed bylaw controlling traffic on the Hutt Pipe Bridge, to.be placed before the City Council at an early date, was received from the Wellington Town Clerk. Objection was taken by Petone councillors to the proposal to restrict the speed limit to 10 miles an hour o:1. the bridge. It was contended that this would cause congestion. A resolution fixpressing this view is to be sent to the City Council.
The borough engineer reported that North Park would be completed early in November. It was proposed to start raising the lower parts of the Recreation Ground as soon as North Park was finished so as to keep the men employed. Permits for buildings to the total value ol £750 were issued in October.
On the recommendation of the Works Committee it was decided not to accept thdoffer made by some of the council's employees to work overtime jvithout pay.
