LABOUR HANDICAP
IS THERE A MOTIVE ?
The shortness of the election campaign was referred to by Mr. B. Semple, the Labour candidate for Wellington East,< in his opening address at Mira^ mar last night.
"I am sorry that tho Government has c^i'xbwn the time between the closing of Parliament and tho elections," he said, "but, of course, it has a motive. Thousands of people will bo disfranchised because of tho', short notico of the closing of -the rolls. Thore is no licensing poll this year, and as a result the Prohibition people and tho licensing ..people have not been engaged on putting people on the roll. The short campaign is also preventing tho Labour Party candidates from meeting all the electors and explaining1 their policy to them* The other parties have the Press .to help .them, but the Labour candidates have to rely on getting into personal touch with the electors."
