Xorth Island horses did not faic so well tit Biccarton on Saturday as they had done on some of the oarlicr days, and although they succeeded in winning thvee of the events the share of the stake-money going to them amounted to only £545, again&t the £1393 won by southern stables. The North Island, however, still came out of the meeting with the lion's sl^are of the-prize-money, winning in &\l_ £6323, as compared with the £3955 won by southern horses. - -- ' Saturday's winners for the"North Island were Bronze Eagle (G. G. Stead Cup), La Moderne (Pioneer Handicap), and (Jhief Cook (Cressy Handicap). Place-fillers from ■the' North, were Ladjr Para, Mister Quex, and Arrow Lad. The' two principle handicaps wont to southern .horses, Compris taking the Metropolitan and Great Star iho Mcmbeis' Handicap.' The total number of placings recorded by the Northcineis for the three days was thirty-ioiir out of the ninety. The South Inland .thus beat the North on this- store. The difference of twenty-two is tuuch assisted by ,lhe bucceas of the fcioutherneis in tho hmdles (all- placings) and'th& highweight -events. Ircntham btablcs werr not strongly iepre&entcd at the meeting this year, only fifteen horses from the. centre, finally undertaking the .trip, but they managed to win two good races among them. Cimabue- 'was' successful in the Stewards' Handicap and Ephialtes in the Otaio Plate. • Thos& to' till minor placings were Lady Pam (twice), Aetaeon, Posy, Vitaphone, Plower, and Ephialtes. The stakes won totalled' £76j, >of which Cimabue accounted-for £350, Ephialtea for "£205, and Lady Pam for £120. . The biggest winning owner at the meeting was the Auckland sportsman, Dr. W. C. Ring, whose colt, Bronze Eagle, won £1260 through his successes in the New Zealand Derby and G-. G. Stead Cup. Only three other owners won more than £500, these 'being Messrs. E. and N. Foreman, £700 with Spearful; Mr. F.- P. Campbell, !£s6o,mth Compris,, and Mr. W. Jury, '£535 with Korokio.
