GENERAL ELECTION CAPAIGN
LAST NIGHT'S MEETINGS
The General Election campaign in Wellington was started in earnest last evening, several candidates making • their opening addresses to the electors. In the main the meetings were quiet and orderly and the speakers were given an excellent opportunity of stating their case. In Brooklyn lie Coalition candidate for Suburbs, Mr. R. A. Wright, encountered some trouble from a small' section of, his audience, but appeals for order from the chairman succeeded in keeping the interjectors well in check. The, Labour candidate for Wellington East, Mr. R. Semple, addressed an enthusiastic meeting at Miramar, Mr. T. Forsyth, the Coalition candidate for East, received an attentive hearing at Roseneath, and the Labour candidate for Otaki was followed with interest for nearly -three hours at Porirua. The Communist Party held a meeting at the Mokoia Hall, and this, too, was quiet and orderly.
