IRISH DRAMA
INTERESTING EVENING
A very interesting evening was given at the Pioneer Club recently by Mrs. Martyn-Williams. The programnio took the form of a lecture on the Irish drama by Mrs. Williams, who traced the development of Irish literary movement, dealing particularly with the work of Syngc, Yeats, and Lady Gregory. In illustration of the work oi 1 the latter, two plays wero presented. The first was a reading of "The Bising of the Moon," by Messrs. Turner, East, and Ulric Williams.; and the second a presentation of that delightful comedy, "Spreading the News." This play was fully acted with appropriate scenery and costumes, somo of tlio latter provoking great amusement among members present. The following wercr the performers: "Mrs. Tarkey," Mrs. Martyn-Williams; "Mrs. Fallon," Miss Clarico Bead; "Mrs. Tully," Miss Greta-Stark; "Hartley Fallon," Mr. Ulric Williams; "Shawn Early," Mr. Malcolm Turner; "Jack Smith," Mr. Whitcombe; "James Kyan," Mr. Bob East; "Tim Casey," Mr. I. Copk; "Magistrate," Mr. J. Foster; "Policeman," Mr. G.Williams. Miss Stark sang two Irish songs delightfully, and the finished pianoforto playing of Mr. Hoben charmed the members. During the evening Mr. Iloben played tho following pieces: Concert arrangements of "Tannhauser" (Liszt); "Hark! Hark! The Lark" (Litzt); "Dance d'Olaf" (Pick-Marjiagalli); "Polonaise" (Paderewski); "Danco Negre" (Cyril Scott); "Turkey in' tho Stiaw (GuiQii).
