IN THE COUNCIL
SIR J. PARR'S POSITION . The usual valedictory speeches were made in the Legislative Council. The Leader of the Council (the Hou. Sir James Parr) expressed to Mr. Speaker and the members- of the Council his thanks for the courtesy and kindness which had been extended to him. The legislation they had had to deal with had been both interesting and momentous. He felt that he was parting company with a band of personal friends. The Hon. Sir R. Ileaton Rhodes paid a. tribute to Mr. Speaker and to Sir James Parr. Ho expressed regret that Sir Thomas Sidey had been lost to them ;u- Leader, for Sir Thomas had a wide knowledge not only of legal matters, but of matters which were concerned with the welfare of the Dominion. The Right Hon. Sir Francis Bell expressed tho hope that next year Sir James Parr would return as a sworn member of the Executive Council. The Chairman of Committees (the Hon. h. H. Clark) ret-rued 'his thanks for what had been said about him. He paid a tributu to Sir Walter Camcross and the Leader of the Council. Tho Speaker (the Hon. Sir Walter Camcross) briefly replied.
