An anticyclone has been moving slowly over New Zealand, its centre baring been .situated to the northwards, but since last evening a depression of the westerly type hiis been crossing Die southern portion .of. the South Island. The latter has caused increasing north-west winds, and this morning gales were blowing at. places in and south of Cook Strait. The weather, however, has continued to be fair to fine in most districts, but cloud.v conditions have ruled in the western and rain lias fallen since last night in parts of Westland and Southland. Okuru reports having had 207 points, Puysegur Point 120, and Queenstown S2 points. In the eastern provinces very warm temperatures have- been associated with the north-west winds. A pair of tiger cubs, bornat the Zoo about, ft fortnight ago, made thfiir first public appearance- yesterday afternoon. Mother and the youngsters are doing very well indeed.
