TROTTING RACES
HUTT PAEK MEETING
GOOD FIELDS, FAIR CROWD
Interest in the Wellington Trotting Club's Meeting, which was held at Hutt Park to-day, centred, in tho New Zealand Cup Trial Handicap. Of the nine horses engaged eight were Cup candidates, and the other, Gold Jacket, wlio won the Cup trial two yearß ago, would also have been competing in tho big race but for tho f--ict that his first payment was accidentally missed. In anticipation of a stirring contest in the trial and other events, there was a fair crowd in attendance, and although tho high wind made matters somewhat unpleasant the high-class trotting witnessed compensated in large measure for the deficiencies in the weather. The track was in excellent, order. Eesults up to the time of going to press were as follows: —

Wah madoa. capital beginning but he broke at the end of half a mile. Nelson Parnsh trotted steadily but failed to stay, while Biddy Parrish came fast over the last quarter. Neither Iwanta nor Mokanna wont at all steadily. It looked as if Uv Penalty would have troubled the winner had he kept to his gait in the cirlv stages, and he was only beaten by one and a half length. Biddy Parrfsh was three lengths further back, third. The winner was a good favourite. Times, 3min 51 l-ssee, 3min ol 3-osee, 3min 50sec. (Winner trained by W. Hughes, Longburn.) First Prince led early, but, with a round to go, Native Berry went to tho front and was followed by the favourite, tho pair drawing clear of Colorado, who had always been handy. In the run home Avernus drew way from Native Berry, beating him by two lengths. First Prince just beat Colorado for third place three lengths behind Native Berry, and then came Copper Nob, who went a fine race after a bad beginning. Times: 3min 54 3-5 sec, 3min 52 2-ssec, 3min 57sec. (Winner trained by C. S. Donald, Christchurch). OCTOBER HANDICAP, of 150 soys; second 25 and third 15 from the stake; two miles. 7 H. Bay Admiral led throughout and had an easy victory, winning by three and a half lengths from Willie Derby, who mixed his gait more than once. Bracken, who looked liko troubling the winner, made a bad mistake and lost her chance, and, although she came fast over the last halfmile, she was twelve lengths behind Willie Derby at the finish. Times: 4min 35 2-sscc; 4min 30 4-ssec; 4min 43 3-dscc. (Winner trained by M. B. Edwards, Christchurch.)
