PRISON FARM PRODUCE
AGREEMENT BEING KEPT
An assurance that the verbal agreement between the Prisons Department and the Hutt Valley market gardeners' concerning the sale of produce from the Wi Tuko Prison Farm was being adhered to, was given to Mr. W. Nash (Labour, Hutt) by the Minister in charge of the Department (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) iv the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr. Nash said that he hoped the Minister was taking eteps to see that the produce from the farm was not being marketed to the detriment of ihe ordinary market gardeners .in the Hutt Valley. When the question arose on a previous occasion the Department accepted a proposal made by the market gardeners, although the agreement was only a verbal one, and carried no le^al sanction. It was understood that the Department would ho dispose of the produce from Wi Tako as not to prejudice the ordinary market gtirdenors. Was that arrangement being carried out? If it were not, the market gardeners would be seriously affected. In reply, the Minister staled that the arrangement was being adhered to.
