A LICENSING BILL
CONTROL BY REGULATION
Provision, for the licensing of moun« tain guides is made in a small Bill introduced and read a first time in th<J House ,of Representatives yesterday.
Power is given for the framing of regulations by Order in Council for the licensing of guides for expeditions into mountainous or unfrequented parts ot tho Dominion, according to conditions to bo laid down. The regulations will also prescribe a scale of fees and will state the minimum number and classification of licensed guides that may be employed on any expedition, as well; as the terms and conditions of employment of guides. "Unlicensed persons will bo prohibited from acting as guides for remuneration, and a similar veto will be placed on tho employment of unlicensed guides. A board is to be established for the issue, renewal, and revokation of licences. The constitution and procedure of tho board is to be prescribed by Order in Council. Provision will be made for fines not exceeding £20 for failure to comply with the regulations.
