REASONABLE ACTION

REMOVAL :0F RAILS

NO TROUBLE

On *econ« thoughts the settlers of Wharanui have apparently decided that the action of tha Government in removing 76 railway rails from the district to Tawa Flat is re.-30nable, and according to latest advice no more will be heard of the threat to unload them again. In a telegram to the Minister of Public Works (the Eight Hon. J. G. Coates) Mr. E. F. Healy, M.P t , drew attontion to the loading of the rails and added that as the Minister had promised that nothing would bo removed from the railway works, the settlers were waiting for Mr. Coates's instructions cancel the shipment, otherwise they intended unloading the rail* themselves. In a reply to Mr. Healy, Mr. Coates stated: — "Eaila on job can surely be used for current work elsewhere. My remarks must be interpreted in the light 'of reason, "flho rails laid down will not be removed, but tock rails can and will be used when required, on any job. In view of the foregoing instructions cannot; be given as you desire.", Mr. "Coates stated last evening that rails in stock could not be allowed to rot on the .job whoni they could be used on other construction jobs such as the Tawa Flat work. Last night Mr. Enaly said that he had communicated with the residents of the district and he understood that, in view of Mr. Coates's reply to his telegram, no further action would be taken. It appeared to be perfectly reasonable that'rails which were not laid and which would merely bo in stock, should be ,used elsewhere. ■
